Konichiwa! こんにちは
I’m about to embark on an entirely new language journey during my final semester of college, and for my class we have to create blog posts on learning Japanese.
I chose to study Japanese for a series of reasons. First, I knew that I wanted to study another language apart from Spanish during my final semester at Saint Mary’s. The only ones that fit in my schedule were German and Japanese, which I can only take at Notre Dame since SMC does not offer any beginning language courses spring semester. Then, I picked Japanese because I wanted to take advantage of having a classroom setting before I set off into the real world. I figure I could always learn German or whatever Romantic or Germanic language easier on my own. Besides that, I have always been wanted to learn Japanese because of my interest in Japanese culture. I grew up watching anime so that was my first exposure to Japanese. As a global studies major, I like learning about other cultures too so naturally when learning a new language, you simultaneously learn about the culture.
I’m so excited to learn Japanese!
